In this talk, we are going to discuss the "Age of Engagement" and how digital platforms that can sustain and grow user engagement have become the primary drivers of capital market performance --- across the board!

We are going to see how short-form, engagement-optimized media produces neurological and psychological side-effects that accumulate as systemic "neurological debt". Through a systems and historical lens, we are going to also examine how capital incentives are reshaping human cognitive behavior, reinforcing feedback loops of increasing consumption, impulsive behavior, and behavioral dependency.

To close, we will discuss how to protect ourselves by designing engagement systems that respect human attention and cognition, not just metrics. By prioritizing transparency, user agency, and long-term well-being, platforms can reduce neurological side-effects while still thriving.
