Joe van der Walt, Founding Director of Kohde (Pty) Ltd, is a seasoned software leader with roots in enterprise application development. Based in Johannesburg, he launched Kohde in 2015 alongside fellow coders, creatives, and designers with the mission to produce custom software that drives real, strategic value .
Joe now leads Kohde as a proudly South African business. Under his guidance, the company has grown to a tight-knit team specializing in end-to-end solutions—from UX/UI design, mobile and cloud infrastructure, to DevOps and Azure integrations—and earned recognition as a Microsoft Solutions Partner. Since its founding, Kohde has partnered with clients across diverse sectors including banking, telecoms, logistics, agriculture, and security to help them solve business problems by leveraging technology.
Joe is deeply committed to modern engineering principles and open-source advocacy. In a recent blog post on Infrastructure as Code (IaC), he remarked: “Instead of manually configuring servers, you define everything in a text file…” highlighting Kohde’s mission to build reliable, scalable, and auditable systems .
